Project Blog – Honda Canada Headquarters

As it’s almost 15 years that Honda Canada Headquarters achieved LEED Gold Certification, here’s a look back at one of our early LEED projects we are proud to have provided commissioning for. Completed in spring 2010, the 46,450-square-metre campus has already received three awards: the 2011 ED+C (Environmental Design + Construction) Excellence in Design Awards program for outstanding sustainable design techniques; a Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) Citation 2011; and a Markham Design Excellence 2010 Award. This was Honda’s first LEED certified project in Canada.

The headquarters campus, designed by the joint venture team of HOK / ZAS Architects, brings together Honda Canada’s head office building, technical centre, and parts distribution centre. The entire complex uses 33 per cent less energy than a similar building designed to code and 44 per cent less water for plumbing fixtures than a typical office building. Over 8,000 plants, shrubs and trees were planted on the 53-acre site. The irrigation system retrieves recycled surface water through a bio-filter system. More than 75 per cent of construction and land clearing debris was diverted from landfill.
