Thunder Bay Art Gallery Receives Federal Funding

CFMS is pleased to learn that the Federal Government has funded the Thunder Bay Art Gallery with $11.5 million, adding to the $5 million given by the Provincial Government earlier this year.  This funding will help move the project along - it was originally awarded in 2016 and slated to open next year in 2019.  It is now estimated it will open in 2022.  Under Patkau Architects in joint venture with Brook McIlroy, CFMS is providing commissioning for this project, and are committed to working hard with the team to achieve the new opening date.

The new gallery will be double the size of the existing gallery, which has amassed quite a collection since opening in the 1970's.  Some important indidgenous art is part of the permanent collection the gallery houses, along with Northern artits.  Located on the waterfront of Lake Superior, the art gallery promises to be a revenue driving tourist destination for Thunder Bay.
