York University's New Student Centre was featured in Building Magazine this week, and is praised for following the growing trend with University Student Centres for soliciting the input of those using the space - the students - to design buildings that meet their needs.
“The building excels at responding to students on both individual and group levels. There are spaces for quiet reflection and study and areas for dynamic collaboration and friendship. We believe we’ve created a building where every student can feel welcome, safe, motivated and connected to their peers,” said Siva Vimalachandran, Executive Director of the Centre.
Designed by Cannon Desgin, the building features study, meeting, lounge, studio, club offices, assembly and multi-faith prayer spaces for York’s diverse population. Achieving LEED Gold Certification and meeting Toronto Green Standards, sustainable features include green roofs, high performance glazing/curtain wall, reduced energy use through envelope and mechanical systems design and lighting controls.
CFMS was pleased to provide the commissioning for such a vital part of York University's campus.
