CFMS Favourite Projects Series - Ed Trueman Edition

Starting our new "Get to Know the CFMS Team" series, highlighting our favourite projects from over the years that CFMS has provided commissioning for, is Vice President Ed Trueman.  He has been around CFMS from the very beginning, as CFMS founder Mel James' first hire.  With almost 30 years of commissioning experience, he's worked on a lot of projects over the years!  Let's see what his favourite one is:

"One of my favorite buildings is still the Canadian Broadcast Centre which is located on Front Street, with entrances off John Street & Wellington Street, in downtown Toronto.  Built between 1988 & 1992, and comprising over 1.7 million sq ft over 10 stories, this significant building is home to the CBC’s English-language television and radio services, as well as providing studios for local and regional French language productions.  One of the renown jewels of the Canadian Broadcast Centre is the one-of-a-kind Glenn Gould Studio, named after one of the most celebrated pianists of the 20th century.  A bronze statue of this gentleman can be seen on Front Street at the entrance to the building.

I was proud to have not only been involved in some of the HVAC design aspects of the building (when employed at Smith and Andersen Consulting Engineering), eg designing ductwork and specifying silencers for some of the NC-12 spaces such as the Glenn Gould Studio, but also in being one of the first at CFMS to commission the various HVAC systems utilizing one of the first versions of Johnson Control’s Metasys Building Automation System.  Being part of our heritage, visit the building via an organized tour and see the acoustically-enhanced Glenn Gould Studio, where having almost undetectable noise levels makes you feel that there is no air to breathe – not to mention the magnificent music you could hear from whomever may be playing on the stage."

Stay tuned to see what the rest of the team has to say!
