CFMS Consulting Inc. is pleased to continue their work at hospitals and their working relationship with PCL on the Humber River Hospital Project. The hospital will be a feat of technology, being the first fully digital hospital in Canada. CFMS Principal Ed Trueman is working on the project, and while Ed has extensive hospital commissioning background, Humber River Hospital is providing some new experiences for him. Ed has the following to say about the project:
"The Humber River Regional Hospital project is very interesting in that it is planned to become the first fully integrated hospital in Canada. In contrast to the majority of hospital development projects we have worked on in the past, where limited integration is achieved, this new hospital is to have a main building automation system (BAS) front end, which will be integrated with various electrical and communication individual control and monitoring systems (ECMSs) to provide a fully integrated scenario. Major systems which will be integrated as such will include for ACMS (access control and monitoring), AGVs (automated guided vehicles), unified communications, wired/wireless networks, wireless tracking, nurse call, lighting controls and the like. In addition, seamless integration is also planned for the mechanical ECMS which will be controlling the major HVAC systems throughout the facility, to provide optimum space conditions for the users and patients throughout."
Humber River Hospital will open in 2015, providing in-patient and out-patient services, including women and children services, emergency care, cardiac, cancer and critical care, to name just a few. Not only will it be fully digital, it will also be Green. The design follows LEED guidelines, with a goal of LEED Silver Certification. Humber River Hospital could be the new face of hospitals in Canada.
