October 01, 2020
It is hard to believe we are ten months into 2020 already, though with all that has been going on, it’s not surprising time seems to be flying. For many of us, this has been the most challenging year we have experienced. We’ve seen our business associates, clients, vendors, friends and family all affected in one way or another. Yet we’ve seen many come together, find new solutions, and provide support to help us all get through these times.
In the early days when Ontario declared a state of emergency, CFMS moved quickly to a remote working model. We adapted some of our practices and methodologies to accommodate the need for physical distancing. We equipped our staff with the necessary technology and resources to maintain the quality level of commissioning services we are known for.
Now 6 plus months plus later, we’ve done an audit on what our working model will be like at present, and for the near future. As are still in a pandemic, with uncertainty about the future lingering, for the time being we have opted to stick to a remote working model, to continue to do our part to continue to prevent the spread by eliminating a communal working space for our employees. CFMS is thankful we are in a position to do so, having tested out this model for the past 6 months with great success.
Changes are not without their losses, and so have had to make some difficult decisions as part of this process. We’ve been in our current office since 2005, and made many memories as a company over the years there. From our dart board, to mini-putt station, to our collective puzzle table, over the years it hasn’t been all work there, but fun too. We will miss the space that has seen us grow as a company, along with our families, over the years.
As we will no longer have a physical office, we also no longer have the need for a receptionist. Aysha Perera had been with us since 2010, and for anyone who has had to deal with her over the years, you will know her to always be of a sunny disposition and friendly manner. We are sad to have parted ways with her, but it seems as though she already has plans for an exciting future ahead. All of us at CFMS wish her well in her future endeavours.
The lack of office will also require some further procedural changes. We will utilize a PO Box for central standard mail deliveries, and ask that should clients need to send documents to specific individuals, that arrangements are to be made with them directly. We will have a central office phone line for general inquiries, otherwise our cellular numbers will be our primary means of telephone communications. As these procedural changes are minor, we don’t expect any significant disruptions to our core services despite not having a physical office. Like the rest of the world, we’ve learned to adapt as the world continues to change.
Another change we did know was coming, but thought we’d share in our update, is the semi-retirement of CFMS’ first hire – Edward Trueman. Ed has been with CFMS since the beginning, and has helped CFMS grow to the well reputed commissioning company CFMS is known as. His semi-retirement officially began September 28, 2020, but he will continue to offer consulting services as he finishes projects and phases out over the coming months.
We look forward to the future ahead, and are ready to meet the further challenges that will no doubt come with it. Our clients can continue to have confidence in exceptional commissioning services, streamlined to meet modern demands. Operating on a virtual, remote office model, CFMS is pleased to do our part to continue to keep people safe in these uncertain times.
As always, should you have any questions or concerns for this or any other matter, CFMS is here to work with you, and will gladly address any matter.
