Getting to Know the CFMS Team - Ed Trueman
Tell us about your role:
I am a principal at CFMS, who is helping to manage the daily operations of the Company where needed, on top of being directly involved on various commissioning projects in addition to assisting project managers where needed with their queries and technical questions, while trying to guide them with a sense of quality control and Client based interaction on their projects.
What is a typical work day like for you?
I try to start my day early (around 8am) to try and get at least some pressing items addressed when the office environment is the most tranquil. By mid-morning, I am either diligently trying to complete required tasks or reports or may be out on a construction site witnessing contractor tests or conducting installation reviews related to commissioning. The day usually ends up flying by before you can complete the last task you badly wanted to finish, although I try to leave for home between 5:30 & 6pm.
What challenges do you most enjoy in your role?
I relish helping fellow employers gain a better understanding of their roles and expectations, through guidance when requested, or by scheduling and moderating educational sessions on topics deemed necessary for the betterment of their roles and the expansion of their knowledge. Also, trying to keep up with the ever-changing technology & design in the HVAC field, where our work presides, including for Standards & Codes, while performing, analyzing and reporting on our commissioning findings for assigned projects – there is never enough time in a day!
How do you unwind at the end of the day/what’s your guilty pleasure?
During the summer months there is not much unwinding during most of the week except on Fridays and Sundays, when I would usually enjoy a casual dinner with my family – unless we are on a cruise to somewhere which we try to do at least every two years; during the fall and winter months I try to unwind twice a week by curling at the local Club and socializing after the game with fellow members.
- Following and admiring my Montreal Canadiens hockey team by attending a game at Bell Centre in Montreal.
